Version 3.5 New Features Overview
This page provides an overview of the new features in
version 3.5 of Projectricity. This update includes a major face-lift of the
user interface, several significant
tool enhancements, a change from having a "default
project" to a new "current project" paradigm, upgraded hardware for the hosted solution and all
the latest operating system and database software. We think you will be
very pleased with the enhancements!
New Server
With this release, the hosted version of
Projectricity is being upgraded to a new more powerful server with the latest
hardware technology, operating system and database infrastructure, which results
in improved performance.
New Oracle Java Plug-in Required
During your first login to the updated system, the
updated Oracle Application Server software will require that you download a new
version of the Oracle Java plug-in called "JInitiatior." This will happen
automatically when you login to Projectricity for the first time on the new
system, and you will be prompted to download Jinitiator from Oracle Corporation
and install it into your browser. If you are a current user of
Projectricity, you will have gone through this before when you first logged into
the system.
On your first login to the updated system,
the new Java plug-in will require a few minutes to download, then the
installation wizard will appear and guide you through the installation process.
You will only need to do this the first time you login to the new system.
New URL
The new hosted version of Projectricity has a new
URL to access the system, so you are encouraged to continue using the "LOGIN"
link from the Projectricity website which will be updated to reflect the new URL
so you can continue to access the hosted version of the system as you have
always done.
Tool Updates
Login Screen
The login screen has been updated graphically, but works
about the same as before, although the menu and horizontal toolbar have been
updated. The new login screen now appears as follows:

"My Portal" vs. "Process Portal"
When logging into the new version, you will come first to a
screen called "My Portal" which replaces the "Process Portal" screen. The
new My Portal screen is much more functional than the old Process Portal
providing you direct access to the three main groupings of data in the system in
a tabbed interface with each of the following tabs:
"My Assignments" - This tab provides a complete
listing of all items assigned to you from throughout the system that you can
immediately drill into, or see linked items, subscriptions and so on.
"My Projects" - This tab displays a list of all the
projects in the system that you are associated to and allows you to view project
details.
"Tools" - This tab contains a single graphical
flow-type representation of all the tools in the system, similarly to the tools
suite tabs in the old version.

Specification Tool
The Specification Tool has been enhanced to allow the creation of
new sibling and child specifications to be done three different ways directly
from a highlighted spec in the tree structure:
1) Right-mouse click pop-up menu - this is similar to the old way, except that
you no longer have to open a sub-menu to select the creation of a sibling or
child
2) Buttons from the left of the tree structure - eliminates the need to use the
pop-up menu
3) Hot Keys - Each of the buttons to the left of the tree structure now have hot
keys associated with them for very rapid creation of new sibling or child
specifications - a very nice improvement!

The Grid Editor within the Specification
Tool, along with each of the other data grids in the Specification Tool now
support the direct export of grid contents to a spreadsheet. This allows
you to filter and sort the data as desired in the grid, then export direct to a
spreadsheet such as MS Excel. This is available via the button highlighted
in the image below:

Object Linking
The Object Link Editor has been significantly enhanced to
allow for more links to be displayed on the main screen, and now allows for the
selection of multiple existing items from throughout the system at one time.
This will now allow you to select any number of items of many types, such as
requirements, issues, files, changes requests and so on all at once after
filtering and sorting the items you wish to select from.

To create links to existing items, click the
first green plus icon (without the yellow background) which will display the
following screen:

Then, select the "Select" button to return
the selected items to the list of linked items. You can then click OK to
save those links or click Cancel to not save those links.
To create a link to a newly created item,
you now click on the 'new' icon with yellow background (see circled icon below).
This will display a list of item types you can create a new instance of that
will be automatically linked to your current item.

Document Repository Tool
In addition to the new look and feel, the Document Repository tool
now has improved support for
deleting files from the repository, and now support access to the
Object Link Editor.

Support Request Tool
The support request tool now provides a direct means of
requesting help from your internal Projectricity support contact. This is
available from the "Support" link at the bottom of the new vertical toolbar.

New User Interface
Projectricity has undergone a major face-lift with
a new look and feel! Examples of the update are shown in the following
sections.
Some of the user interface updates you
will notice include:
Full Screen Display - Each screen now occupies the entire available space in
the application window. This has
allowed the layout of each tool to be adjusted to better fit the larger display resulting in
more information being displayed in each screen while creating a less
cluttered and smoother appearing presentation.
Iconic Buttons - Most of the buttons to access the linked objects,
subscriptions, insert, delete and so on, have been changed from text buttons to
iconic buttons resulting in space savings and a cleaner look and feel.

New Colors - The banner has been changed to a blue pattern design with the
screen backgrounds changed to a lighter gray color.

New Vertical Toolbar - A new vertical toolbar has been added to the left
of all screens providing text links to each of the system tools.

New Menu - The menu items have all been re-designed to be much more
concise and now includes a menu item to access all the tools.

New Horizontal Toolbar - Icons representing selected options from the new
menu items are contained on the updated horizontal toolbar at the top of the
system window.

Administration Tools Moved - The Administration tools are now accessible
from the new menu for those users that have the Admin role granted to them.

"Current Project" vs. old "Default
Project"
Previously, you were able
to select your "default project" from the old "Process Portal" screen. In
this version, there is now a "Current Project" that you can select from any main
tool screen in the system, which becomes the equivalent of the old "default
project."
